What is Khairat?
Khairat (خيرات) is a traditional Islamic mutual aid practice deeply rooted in Malaysian Muslim communities. It is a death benevolent fund where community members contribute regular small amounts to a collective pool.
When a member or their family member passes away, the fund provides financial assistance to cover funeral expenses and support the bereaved family during their time of need.
This practice embodies the Islamic principles of Ta'awun (mutual cooperation) and Takaful (mutual guarantee), ensuring that no Muslim family faces financial hardship during bereavement.
